GWINNETT COUNTY
Gwinnett County, known in the 1980's as the "Fastest Growing County in the US" had an estimated population of 673,345 people in 2003.

Incorporated Cities: Auburn, Berkeley Lake, Braselton, Buford, Dacula, Duluth, Grayson, Lawrenceville, Lilburn, Loganville, Norcross, Rest Haven, Snellville, Sugar Hill and Suwanne.
Unicorporated: Centerville, Five Forks, and Mountain Park.
Brief History: Gwinnett County was named after Button Gwinnett, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and a former state governor.

It was formed from Cherokee lands and a part of Jackson County. The county seat is Lawrenceville, named to honor Captain James Lawrence whose dying words "Don't give up the ship" has become part of the American lexicon.
Top Attractions: Favorite tourist attractions include Lake Lanier Islands (one of the most popular recreation lakes in the US) and Chateau Elan (resort and winery).

Stone Mountain Park borders both Gwinnett and DeKalb counties. Nearby Yellow River Game Ranch is a 24-acre nature preserve.

History buffs will enjoy the Gwinnett History Museum and the Historic Courthouse, both in Lawrencville, and the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth.

Other notable attractions include the Road Atlanta Raceway, the Gwinnett County Civic and Cultural Center (featuring the Gwinnett Philharmonic), the Ice Forum (practice arena for the Atlanta Thrashers) and the Buford Artists Colony.

Gwinnett County is home to the minor league hockey's Gwinnett Gladiators and the Arena Football League's Georgia Force.

Odd Fact: Gwinnett County has a law that forbids residents from keeping
rabbits as pets. The county livestock law restricts rabbits to farm areas and homes with at least three acres of land.
