| Brief History: |

Georgia's 81st county was named for U.S. Representative, U.S, Senator and Supreme Court Judge Thomas Willis Cobb. The city of Marietta (and county seat) is named after his wife.
Cobb County was created by the state legislature out of Cherokee and Creek Indian territory in 1832 as part of a land lottery. |

Favorite tourist attractions include Six Flags Over Georgia, Six Flags White Water, American Adventures and the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art.
Cobb County's park system is one of the largest in the Southeast. Attractions include the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area and Lake Allatoona.
Civil War memorials include the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History, and the Marietta Confederate Cemetary.
Other notable attractions include the Mable House and the Silver Comet Trail.
Cobb County is also the headquarters for several major businesses, including The Weather Channel, Home Depot, Lockheed Martin and Georgia Northeastern Railroad.
